Apr 14, 2015  The Photos app on Mac lets you to create a new library in order to help you manage your photos comfortably. There are some particular photos which you can keep separately to access them instantly. Many a time selecting a specific photo. MacOS 10.13.4 appears to break PowerPhotos. I have been trying to merge two libraries and have let PowerPhotos run for two days and it just keeps running. It indicates that it has produced a merged library but the library is empty. You can create folders to group your albums. For example, you could create a folder named “Vacations” and put all the albums of your vacations into it. You can also create folders inside other folders.

Create a folder

  1. In the Photos app on your Mac, click My Albums in the sidebar.

  2. Choose File > New Folder.

    If you don’t know how to do that, simply choose Home from Finder’s Go menu located in the top menu bar (Go - Home) or simply press “Command + Shift + H” on your keyboard.Right click (secondary click) in any blank area and select “Show View Options.” You can also access this by selecting Show View Options in the View menu or by simply pressing “Command + J” on your keyboard.In the second to last section, the last option will be “Show Library Folder.” Make sure this box is checked.   3. Type a name for the folder.

  4. Drag albums into the folder.

    Tip: To quickly create a folder, Option-drag one or more albums onto another album. Photos places all the albums into a new folder. You can also drag other albums into the new folder.

You can’t move shared albums into a folder.

Delete a folder from the sidebar

  1. In the Photos app on your Mac, click My Albums in the sidebar.

  2. Control-click the folder, choose Delete Folder, then click Delete.

    The folder and the albums within it are removed from the library and from iCloud, but the items in the albums remain in your photo library. If you accidentally remove a folder, choose Edit > Undo Delete Folder to restore it.

To remove an album from a folder, click the folder in the sidebar, then Control-click the album on the right and choose Move Album Out Of [folder name].

Find the status bar

To see how many photos and videos are in your library, select Photos, click Moments, then scroll to the bottom. If you have iCloud Photos turned on, the status bar also shows how the photo library on your Mac compares to what's in iCloud Photos. If you're uploading photos to iCloud Photos, you can click Pause or Resume here.

Manage Items on This Mac Only

If there are 'referenced' photos or videos in the library on your Mac, you might see Items on This Mac Only in the status bar. Referenced items aren't uploaded to iCloud Photos, and aren't available on other devices. If you want to include them in iCloud Photos, here's what to do:

  1. Choose File > New Smart Album.
  2. Name the Smart Album 'Referenced' and select Photo - is - referenced. Click OK.
  3. Select 'Referenced' in the left sidebar.
  4. Press Command-A to select all the photos in the Smart Album, and then choose File > Consolidate.

If you can't upload photos from your Mac

Unable to Upload [#] Items appears if there are any photos or videos on your Mac that couldn't be uploaded to iCloud Photos. You might be able to fix this with steps below, but edits and keywords that you applied to these photos will be lost.

  1. Create a new Smart Album by choosing File > New Smart Album.
  2. Name the Smart Album 'Unable to Upload' and set the three pop-up menus to Photo - is - unable to upload to iCloud Photos.
  3. Select 'Unable to Upload' in the left sidebar.
  4. Press Command-A to select all the photos in the Smart Album, and then choose File > Export > Export Unmodified Original For (#) Photos.
  5. In the dialogs that follow, choose the file name format and location for the exported photos. Click Export, then click Export Originals.
  6. After the photos export, make sure the photos are all still selected in the Smart Album. Then right-click or Control-click one of them, and choose Delete (#) Photos from the menu that appears.
  7. Click Delete, then click OK.
  8. To import the photos back into your library, choose File > Import and find the images in the location you chose in step 5.
